I took my 24 year old f150 to AAMCO Lancaster to check rear left axle leak, which I assumed was a leaky axle seal? I knew I could do the work myself, but I live 60 miles south in Los Angeles, and wanted to go to a more reputable establishment not knowing the area. I was skeptical, and knew it would be slightly more expensive, but couldn’t drive back to my house and chance doing more damage. Staff was able to accept my vehicle within 2 hours of my call. Staff was cordial and professional. AAMCO inspected and test drove my vehicle within 2 hours of my initial drop off. They gave me a fair assessment of what we all expected, to replace rear seal, remove differential inspection cover and replace all fluid. Upon inspection with the access plate removed, AAMCO would do more of a thorough inspection. I received a call from the lead technician Juan that upon removal of the left rear axle to replace the left rear seal, the left rear axle bearings were worn and needed to be replaced. Also the left axle was compromised due to the bearings failure. I immediately returned to AAMCO so I could negotiate the work to be done and not have discussions over the phone. I was taken back and upset with fear a skepticism. Thinking I was at the mercy of another auto shop? On my travels back to AAMCO I knew what takes place with the work involved in the rear axle and differential being a novice mechanic and car builder in my own right. I knew that the wear of a bearing would affect the new bearings replacement if the axle were to have a worn seat since the rear bearing on a ford rear end is pressed directly onto the axle itself, and that would cause [eventually] a rear seal to leak by uneven rotation with a worn axle/bearing compromise. Still I was at AAMCO’s mercy. I was met by the manager and Lead Technician Juan. I was instructed of metal shavings and that AAMCO recommended a differential rebuild to guarantee my vehicles rear end for 3 years. I didn’t disagree, but was at a crossroads. I only plan to keep the vehicle for another year or two. I was very skeptical that AAMCO Lancaster was trying to get more work, but also understood they were being totally honest a forthcoming. The manager listened yo my side, was very open minded, although he also explained his responsibilities to the integrity of AAMCO and his staff. We negotiated that I would like AAMCO to replace only the rear left axle, new left bearing and left rear seal. That new differential fluid would be installed upon the rear differential plate being reinstalled with a new gasket. AAMCO did have to deny the 3 year guarantee warranty on my rear end, but did give me a 1 year warranty on parts replaced and workmanship preformed. At this time I was frustrated, but felt that AAMCO listened, compromised, and did the work the way I wanted done as a consumer. The work was finished on time as was appropriate, having to find the axle and bearing, and changes to the original work order. I was met at my arrival with Lead Technician Juan explaining in detail what work was preformed. Still being skeptical I asked to receive my parts that were replaced. It was not a problem since the original parts were available to me since the work was honestly completed. I felt a great sense of relief that I not only saw, with my own eyes, what was told to me, but also the care and concern Juan and staff had for me and my vehicle. I waited a week to write a review. I wanted to make sure there were no leaks or failures. I am sooo glad that I took a chance on AAMCO Lancaster. I spent good money to have professional work done. AAMCO might be a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. AAMCO is cheaper than the dealerships. They also stand behind their work. I would totally recommend AAMCO Lancaster to all my friends. They were honest, professional, and thorough with their inspections and workmanship. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and considerate to customers voice and concerns. I will use AAMCO Lancaster again if I need work done beyond my capabilities.
